Oban 14 Year Single Malt Scotch
The nose is rich and smoky, with pronounced medicinal character and coastal notes—think seaweed and tarred ropes. Hints of freshly cut hay and wood smoke emerge, balanced by a gentle estery sweetness. On the palate, it feels full and viscous, offering bright citrus layered with a smooth, mellow sweetness. The smoke drifts through again, carrying subtle seaweed nuances. The oak influence is robust, bringing flavors of grain, cereal, and malt. The finish is long and satisfying, marked by fruit and a drying oak character.
Oban is distilled using just two pot stills, making it one of the smallest distilleries in Scotland. Its whisky is often described as having a distinctive “West Highland” style, sitting between the dry, smoky character of the islands and the lighter, sweeter profile of Highland malts.
